Why is by tailwheel/gauge wheel not pivoting properly?
Answer

The gauge wheel spindle tube could be locking up. Make sure that the spindle tube is grease at a minimum of every 24 hours of use. The gauge wheel hub needs to be greased every 8 hours of use.

Why do I keep breaking my tail wheel yoke?
Answer

Grease tailwheel and yoke per manual instructions as it is likely becoming stuck.

Why did the shear bolt break on my driveline?
Answer

The shear bolt is in place to protect the gearbox from damage. The shear bolt is designed to shear when the blade impacts foreign objects that it is not designed to cut through. To avoid shear bolt failure, engage the PTO slowly at low engine RPM. Shear bolt should be replaced with Grade 2 bolt.

Why are my cutter blades locking up?
Answer

Ensure that your cutter is being engaged and disengaged at an idle speed. Check that the tractor has a hydraulic engage oil clutch. Blades may also need to be reshimmed. The mower blades need to be less than ¾” deflection.

Where should I set the front of the cutter in relation to the rear?
Answer

½” to 1” lower in the front.

When I start the cutter up it shakes and vibrates. How do I prevent this?
Answer

Start unit at idle and wait a moment to raise RPM.

What is causing my cutter to vibrate?
Answer

Your blades may need to be weighed, and checked for damage. The dishpan also needs to be checked for damage (from a forklift, stump, etc.)

What do I need to do if my cutting height is off or my deck is lower at the front than at the back?
Answer

You will need to raise or lower the tailwheel height. To lower the cutting height, adjust the tailwheel up. To raise the cutting height, adjust the tailwheel down.

What do I do if I break the shear bolt when I start the tractor?
Answer

Start your cutter with the tractor at idle and no load on cutter.

What could be causing my cutter to vibrate?
Answer
  • The cutting blades could be out of balance. Be sure to replace both cutting blades at the same time. Not replacing both blades could result in premature bearing damage or structural damage to gearbox or deck.
  • Dishpan could be out of balance. Check the integrity of the dishpan. Make sure it does not have any damage.
What caused the tailwheel support to fail?
Answer

Lowering the cutter to the ground too fast can cause the tailwheel support to fail. The rate of drop on some tractors can be adjusted. Backing up when the cutter is in a ditch can also cause the tailwheel support to fail.

What caused the driveline to bend or twist?
Answer

Either the slip clutch was never slipped, or a grade 5 or grade 8 bolt was used in place of the grade 2 bolt specified.

What are check chains?
Answer

Check chains are used when you want to return the mower down to the same height of cut every time.

The u-joint has come apart. Why?
Answer

If you have a Slip clutch driveline: Pre slip clutch per manual instructions.

If you have a Shear bolt driveline: Use grade 2 shear bolt.

My driveline will not slide or telescope?
Answer

Grease driveling profile also check to be sure the profiles are not bent.

How do I remove the blades on my cutter?
Answer

Rotate the dishpan until the blade bolt aligns with the access hole. The blade bolt is keyed so it will not rotate freely. You will need to unscrew the lock nut to remove cutting blades.

How do I drain the oil in the gearbox?
Answer

Remove the vent plug (if on top) and use a suction gun to pull the oil out. If the vent is on the side or back, the top cover can be removed and then the oil can be removed with the suction gun.
