Where in the world did the summer go? I know, it's still in triple digits in many places, including Salina, KS, but there was just a hint of fall in the air this morning. Nice north breeze and temps in the 60s. Nice.

I can also say Land Pride has been busy this summer and that has made it fly by. We hit May and things got busy. Land Pride never looked back. Now it's August 26th and here I sit having missed an entire summer of blogging, just because we were so busy.

If your yard is anything like my yard, winter kill took its toll. A lot of you are probably even saying, “Dee, we haven’t even seen Spring, yet.” I feel that way too. I’m ready to get in the yard, but Old Man Winter isn’t ready to leave yet – many places around Kansas received snow on April 14 – Snow!

While I certainly understand the best time to overseed is Fall, I also understand after the brutal temperatures many of the us saw this winter, waiting might not be an option. So if it’s not, here’s what you can do:

Over the weekend, while you were celebrating Ground Hog day, seven trucks rolled out of Salina headed for Louisville, Kentucky and the 2014 National Farm Machinery Show. This week, three valuable members of the Land Pride team are working hard to prepare the 50 or so pieces that Land Pride will have on display on two lots inside the Kentucky Exposition Center. Next week 16 members of our Sales and Marketing team will be on hand to tell current and future Land Pride owners about our full line of Land Pride products.

Have you ever sat around an wondered "Why the heck are those Land Pride dealers so smart?" Well, if you have (or even if you haven't) I'll tell you, in part, how they got that way.

This time of year is hectic. This year seems more so than ever before -- for me anyway. Perhaps it was the late Thanksgiving.

At this time of year, as a society, we tend to take stock of things that we are thankful for. Me, not one to buck the system, offer some thankful thoughts for Thanksgiving 2013 – wow… can you believe that 2013 has come and almost gone?

The number one thing that I am thankful for is my faith. I didn’t always have that, but something touched me and I do now. Each day something happens that makes me stop and think and thank my maker for my faith. Not sure where I’d be without it and for that I am thankful.

Our Territory Manager in Oklahoma belongs to an Antique Tractor Club that recently restored and gave away a 1948 Ferguson with a Land Pride RCR1860 attached to the back of it. The winning ticket was held by David Middlebrook of Mannford, OK. David is a retired building contractor and runs a few cows on his acreage.

I believe in Customer Service. I believe that if you make a customer happy, they’ll come back. Bend over backwards for them and they will never leave. Part ways on bad terms and you may never see them again. Not taking care of a customer service issue immediately and satisfactorily is something that I find unacceptable.

Land Pride is second to none in customer service. We pride ourselves on bending over backwards to help our dealers and our customers. We also take pride in our quality – the “fit and finish” of our product is as important as keeping the customer happy. So when I got this email this morning, I sprang into action:

Where did the summer go? It seems like yesterday I was lamenting the fact that it was hot and dry. What a difference a month makes, at least in central Kansas anyway.

With Fall right around the corner, it’s time to talk about overseeding. As we all know, Fall is the best time to overseed a lawn and repair those unsightly bare areas. But what about Spring, you ask? Some think that spring is the time to overseed, but we know that’s not the case. One application of your garden-variety crabgrass preventative and spring seeding is out of the question. Summer overseeding anyone?

It's July. The dog days of summer are upon us.

Yesterday (July 8th) in Salina, KS, home to Land Pride’s World Headquarters, the mercury reached 102 degrees. Today’s forecast is for 105 to 108 – depending on which “expert” you listen to. With these triple digit temps, we also have high humidity. The two combine to make it rather uncomfortable outside – but most Kansans expect these conditions in July. Kansans are used to sweating in the shade.

Sometimes customers get taken care of and I don’t even know about it until after the fact. Land Pride takes such great pride in good customer service that I often don’t even need to get involved. Here’s an example that I received via email this morning from Bruce, one of our Territory Managers:

I happen to believe that Land Pride builds one of the best Zero-Turn Mowers on the market today. I speak highly of them every chance I get. From residential to commercial, LP has you covered. From 40" to 72" and many sizes in between, LP has you covered there too. I also happen to think that our commercial mowers also have one of, if not the most comfortable seat on the market.

We preach the benefits of aeration. From lawn aeration to pasture aeration, Land Pride is a firm believer in it. Pasture aeration is very beneficial to the hard, sun-baked soil found in most rural or ag settings. Several of our Territory Managers think I don’t promote our AR25 Series of Pasture Aerators enough. So I gave that some thought.

OK, I know... you saw the title, looked out the window and said "It's not Spring yet!” It may not feel like it in most parts of the country but tomorrow (March 20) is the first day of Spring.

And like most, you probably think that the best time to overseed your grass is in the Fall. And, really, it is. But there are times when you need to overseed in the Spring.

Monday mornings are always better when you get a hot cup of coffee and find a compliment in your inbox. As I reviewed emails this morning, I came across this one from John in Washington. Land Pride has been saying this very same thing about our Grading Scrapers for years but it sounds oh so much better coming from a customer!

"Your GS15 Grading Scraper allows me to perform professional quality maintenance on gravel roads here on Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

February 16, Land Pride wrapped up another wildly successful trip to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, KY. The four day exposition gave us the opportunity to display 47 products on two lots plus 5 on the Kubota lot. Walking around the show also found Land Pride equipment attached to tractors and UTVs in other vendors’ lots.

Land Pride has some of the greatest customers in the industry. I hear often from customers that love our products. That is one of the most rewarding aspects -- hearing from a satisfied Land Pride customer -- of this position. Land Pride works hard every day to deliver the best piece of equipment that you'll find in the industry. According to David, we are succeeding.

When I was a kid, I lived for snow days. I'd wake up early and race to the radio (KFDI AM in Wichita, KS was THE authority on school closings in south-central Kansas). Most of the time school was in session, but occasionally we'd have a snow day. A snow day was my ticket to hours of sledding and other winter fun -- snow forts, snow angels, snowballs, etc. Thawing out included hot chocolate, a warm bath, and sitting in front of the fire. Snow days made life grand.

Have you ever sat and watched heavy rain runoff pasture ground? I know... You would have if it had rained lately. But have you noticed how it runs off un-tilled soil in pastures far faster than when compared to worked ground? It's great if your ponds are empty, but other than that, most land owners would like to see that rain soak in.

The popular ABC television series from the late 70s and early 80s declared Eight is Enough. For one Land Pride and Kubota customer in Texas, that was certainly not true. After selecting his new Kubota tractor, he needed implements to get work done -- dirt work, fence work, mowing work, field work... and so on.

Fall at Land Pride means we are busy with preseason orders, the resumption of football, and shows! Fall Shows take a lot of time and effort starting in July and running through October. "Shows" include ag, power equipment, and state fairs. We ship equipment all over the US and Canada so that you -- our customers -- can come out and see what we have to offer.
